10 DAYS BIG FIVE AFRICA SAFARI ADVENTURE
Kenya is one of the best places anywhere in Africa for
ticking off the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino. A good
short safari combination for those hoping to see all these charismatic
creatures (and much more besides) would be Masai Mara (for lion, leopard,
buffalo, and elephant) and Lake Nakuru (for black and white rhino). Other top
safari destinations that host all or most of the Big Five include Tsavo East,
Tsavo West, Amboseli, Laikipia Plateau, Sambru-Buffalo Springs-Shaba, Meru, and
to a lesser extent Shimba Hills. This 10 days road safari package entails the
experience of the unique landscape of every destination.

of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains of Ol Pejeta
guarantees an unforgettable safari experience. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a
364sq km wildlife conservancy situated between the foothills of Mount Kenya and
the Aberdares and its game-to-area ratio tops the Kenyan park and reserve
league. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya has over 10000 large mammals and it
is the only park where the big 5 and chimpanzees can be seen. It is also where
the fastest growing population of rhino in Africa can be found. There are
southern white rhino, about 80 endangered black rhino and in a special
sanctuary there are two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino.
Safari by vehicle is not the only option at Ol Pejeta. Safari game walks, horse
rides and even camel rides are available, as are safari night drives. Since
being established in 1988 Ol Pejeta has had a colorful list of previous owners
including Lord Delamere, an early and influential settler from Britain,
shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis’ father Roussel and the arms dealer Adnan
Khashoggi. It was set up originally as a cattle ranch but herds of migrating
elephant regularly destroyed the fenced enclosures making intensive cattle
farming impracticable hence Cattle still plays a role in Ol Pejeta today but as
a managed livestock within the conservancy and is used to maximize the
bio-diversity of the land making Ol Pejeta an integrated wildlife and livestock
area. The Endangered Species Boma is a must-see for any trip to Ol Pejeta. Here
visitors can meet and learn about the Northern White Rhinos which are
critically endangered with only two left in the world. Both of them are here
and visitors can have the unique experience of seeing these majestic creatures

DAY 06: MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Spend the whole day in the Masai Mara Game Reserve
with both morning and afternoon game drives or rather unlimited full day with
picnic lunch boxes as you track down the big cats and other plain game.
Masai Mara Game Reserve offers wonderful scenery and
plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where a visitor may
see animals in the same super abundance as existed a century ago. The
reason being that this hilly region is both humid and fertile and is crossed by
Mara and Talek rivers full of crocodiles and hippos. The abundance of water and
excellent availability of food are the reasons maasai mara has greatest
population of wild animals in the whole of Africa. There is a particularly
dramatic spectacle from July to October, the annual migration of huge herds of
Gnus and Zebras, predators such as Hyenas, Jackals, Leopards and Lions closely
follow these herds. The plain is literally covered with these animals.
Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are
commonplace. The migration, now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World takes
place from end July to September. Soak in the abundance of untamed
wilderness, fresh and natural scenery, filled with exotic wildlife during our
expertly guided game drives enjoyed in open vehicles. Renowned for its
magnificent Big Cat population that hunt the wildebeest, zebra and other plains
game that dominate the Mara, it has even been nicknamed the Kingdom of the
Lions. Jackals and cute pairs of bat-eared foxes. With luck, you may also see a
Serval – a lanky, striped and spotted cat of tall grass and bush, adept at
catching small mammals and birds. The most rear predator of the Masai
Mara, the wild dog, is a beautiful, nomadic pack animal. At one time almost
extinct in the region, one or two packs (and what appear to be smaller scouting
parties of two or three individuals) are being seen in many areas, though still
not on a regular basis. Finding a pride of lions (there are some 400 lions
resident in the reserve and neighboring conservancies) is normally relatively
easy – and high on most visitors’ must-see lists. Leopards are also seen
increasingly often, and good sightings of cheetahs can be expected. Other
predators regular seen throughout the reserve and conservancies include
fascinating spotted hyenas (rarely bothered by human observers and compelling
in their social interactions) black-backed and side-striped. Return to the
lodge for dinner and overnight.

Riding Complex" A wide variety of wildlife, birdlife and flora lives quite
freely out there and as there are no predators to be found, quite happily as
well. Crescent Island Game Sanctuary is a peninsula or island on the eastern
side of Lake Naivasha. Crescent Island was created in 1988, when Lake Naivasha
level dropped sufficiently to allow Crescent Island to become part of the
mainland. On the eastern end of the island sailing is possible at a private
boating club.
The terrain is flat, making it easy for walkers of all abilities to enjoy themselves. There is a lot of easy to see game e.g. giraffes, waterbucks, elands, wildebeests, zebras and impalas. flows and surface in Amboseli, creating a green belt of swampland amidst dusty
