9-DAY KENYA BUDGET SAFARI

This safari tour covers Masai Mara national reserve and Great Rift Valley lakes Naivasha and Nakuru and the Hell's gate the only walking and cycling park. While in this tour you will be able to visit 6 Parks; Masai Mara known as the '7th wonder of the world' -wildebeest Migration, the land of breathtaking landscapes, vistas, abundant wildlife and endless plains, the reserve is home to an excellent concentration of game, the pink Lake Nakuru home to millions of flamingoes and home of the white and Black Rhino, Hells gate and Lake Naivasha - in this park there are a lot of different activities like walking into the gorges and boat ride and cycling and viewing of the great Rift valley escarpment. Amboseli is often referred as the 'Land of Giants' – due to the impressive elephants here carrying massive tusks. The animals are set against breathtaking vistas of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest free standing mountain. Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephant, rhino, Hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, In contrast with the flat plains of Tsavo East, Tsavo West is marked by a number of rocky outcrops and volcanic hills.

DAY 1: NAIROBI | MASAI MARA 


You will be picked-up by our guide who will take you to our office for a briefing. You will then be driven to Maasai Mara Game Reserve in our customized open-roof safari van. A brief stopover at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint will give you the chance for some great photographs. After this stop-over, you will head on to Maasai Mara through Narok town. Upon arrival you will check-in, enjoy lunch and later take off for your first afternoon game drive in this world famous reserve which forms the Northern part of Serengeti National Park. At some point during your stay you will be driven by the river to spot wildlife. This area is a photographer's delight where, with any luck, you will be able to take amazing pictures of the hippo and crocodile in the water. The park rules allows for off-road driving which means that guests can venture onto the plains where you will see hundreds of animals. One thing is for sure, in Maasai Mara, you will experience nature in all its wild wonder.

DAY 2: MASAI MARA

After breakfast you will experience a full day game drive in the Maasai Mara; offering wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where a visitor may see animals in abundance that existed a century ago. Africa has a long history of capturing the imagination of travelers. Its a continent of dramatic contrasts that gives you unforgettable and remarkable experience. The afternoon game drive will take you in search of the famous black- maned lion. During this drive you may witness a lion making a kill, or a leopard enjoying the meal he dragged up in a tree to avoid disturbance and detection. This reserve has savanna, rolling grasslands, gallery forest on the Mara River and tributaries. Soak in the abundance of untamed wilderness, fresh and natural scenery, filled with exotic wildlife! Later in the evening you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY 3: MASAI MARA | LAKE NAKURU

After breakfast you will take off on your last morning game drive in the reserve with the chance to see the Big 5, possibly on a hunting mission. You will view the Thompson's and Grant gazelle, topi, eland, zebra, giraffe, hippo, wildebeest, warthog, crocodile, ostrich, and over 450 birds species; including over 50 birds of prey. Drive to Lake Nakuru national park with a stopover for lunch. This park was famous only as a bird sanctuary especially the lesser and greater flamingos. However, now it is home to the white rhino and Rothschild giraffe, besides the herbivores like buck and antelope. Leopard can also be seen in this park. The vegetation is of the drier type. The flat-topped acacia and the candelabra cactus are a feature of the landscape. Arrive and check in at the lodge or hotel for Lunch and afternoon game drive. Return to the Hotel for Dinner and Overnight.

DAY 4: LAKE NAKURU | LAKE NAIVASHA

After breakfast, drive to the Lake Naivasha. Proceed on your adventure to various attractive features and other optional activities. Hell's Gate National Park is characterized by diverse topography and geological scenery. This Park was named for its pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. The park is home to a profusion of plains game and bird life. Walking is permitted, making it ideal for hiking, biking, and rock climbing.
The lake is almost 13kms across, but its waters are shallow with an average depth of five meters. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life; the waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo population sleeps the day out in the shallows. .
A walk along the shore, or even sitting and relaxing in a single place, will provide you with endlessly rich sightings. A trip out onto the Lake is even more impressive. The water is dotted with Pelicans and the papyrus alive with Kingfisher, Heron, and Jacanas and more, while high in the trees over the Lake you will find Africa’s largest concentration of African Fish Eagles. These mighty birds dominate the air over the Lake; their haunting cries echoing across the shores as they plunge to the surface and pull fish from the water.

DAY 5: LAKE NAIVASHA | AMBOSELI

After breakfast, we depart on a long drive to Amboseli with a stopover for lunch in Nairobi. Afternoon we proceed into the scenic Amboseli National Park, if time permits we shall have an evening game drive. Despite its small size (392 sq km), this fragile ecosystem supports a wide range of mammals (well over 50 of the larger species) and birds (over 400 species).The waters from Mt. Kilimanjaro drain down the mountain under lava flows and surface in Amboseli, creating a green belt of swampland amidst dusty plains. Amboseli lacks the profusion of animal species found in the Mara, but the landscape provides limited cover so we have better chances of seeing some of the larger predators. Elephant, buffaloes, lions, gazelles, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyenas, jackals, warthogs, Masai Giraffes, zebra, baboon, and waterbuck are all present in the park. DAY 6: AMBOSELI

 

After breakfast, morning and afternoon game drives in Amboseli. The game Proceeds to the area of Lake Amboseli, which is a wide salt pan, consisting of permanent swamps.  This area has much game, large and small, high concentration of Elephant, rhino, buffalo, Burchell’s zebra, eland, Masai giraffe and small species of the antelope family, the common water buck, klipspringer, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, and the diminutive duiker among others. The National Park embodies five main wildlife habitats (open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps and marshland) and covers part of a Pleistocene lake basin, now dry Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty – and the landscape is dominated by the towering Mount Kilimanjaro. Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants; Swamp below observation hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water fowl like pelican; Egyptian goose; contemporary Maasai culture and indigenous lifestyle; herds of elephants. Return to the camp or lodge for Dinner& overnight.

DAY 7:  AMBOSELI | TSAVO WEST

After breakfast, morning enroute game drive in Amboseli before  Amboseli is home to the largest population of  Large elephants as well as to members of the rest of the "Big 5" African animals. Depart for Tsavo West National Park which lies roughly halfway between Nairobi and the Coast. The chief marvel here is the Mzima Springs, replenished with two hundred and twenty million litres of crystal clear water.

Cheetah at full alert every day, from the underground streams stemming from the lava massif known as Chyulu Hills. Mzima Springs is a favorite haunt of hippos and crocodiles. There are well-marked nature trails, an observation platform and an underwater glass tank, which provides a special vantage point to view this remarkable oasis. Arrive in time for lunch at the camp or lodge located within the boundaries of the Park. An early evening game drive to see large herds of Elephants, Buffalo, common Waterbuck, Eland, Gerenuk, Masai Giraffe, Black rhino and antelopes. Bird life is also in abundance at this park of great diversity in habitat and terrain. Return to the tented camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 8:  TSAVO WEST N.P | TSAVO EAST

After breakfast, drive to Tsavo East national park, the safari extends to Chyulus hills, volcanic mountain range with a mix of volcanic cones and barren lava flows, of which the most interesting in Shetani, meaning "Devil" in Swahili. Game includes: buffalo, zebra, giraffe, oryx, lion, leopard and many species of birds and plants.
Tsavo East boasts of bushy grassland and open plains alternate with savannah and semi-arid acacia scrub and woodlands The Yatta plateau is the world's largest lava flow. The sight of dust-red elephant wallowing, rolling and spraying each other with the midnight blue waters of palm-shaded Galana River is one of the most evocative images in Africa. The park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust red elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, lesser Kudu, gerenuk and the prolific bird life features 500 recorded species. Return to the camp for dinner & overnight.

DAY 9: TSAVO EAST | NAIROBI (OR MOMBASA) | DEPARTURE

Early morning game drive in Tsavo East national parks, home to the largest Elephant herds in the country, as well as large prides of Lions. The region was made famous due to the Man-eaters of Tsavo, two Lions that killed around 130 people during the construction of the railway line in 1898. The two parks make up the biggest national park in Kenya at just less than 22 000 sq km. It is a vast park and guests will often have to be patient during game viewing activities, but the reward is great. The experienced safari guides are familiar with the game movements and season migration paths and times of Tsavo's wildlife. Some of Tsavo East's popular attractions are Mudanda Rock, Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls. Tsavo West Highlights includes walking safaris during which you can explore the Chaimu volcanic crater. The underground viewing hide which allows you to get a different perspective on Hippos and Crocodiles from underwater at the Mzima Springs, See the Shetani flow where a volcano erupted and created a river of magma that has hardened. Exit the park and drive back to Nairobi where the tour ends.
